Galway and the Cliffs

Hmmm, a weekend to Galway (Gaillimh) is good for a Dublin man. Galway is a nice town on the western shore of Ireland. It is a lively place with a decent swan infested harbour, a reasonbly old city centre (somehouses from the 16st century), a few lovely pubs, quirky stores and a lot of students. On an hours drive, on the other side of the Galway Bay, one can find the Burren's. This desolate area of compressed limestone looks like a lunar landscape. Practically nothing can grow there. Most striking features are some Dolmen and the Famine Walls that run for miles over the hill without any purpose. When leaving the Burren's one encounters the magnificent end of Ireland and Europe with the imposing Cliffs of Moher (see pic above). On a clear sunny but windy day like we had it is even more imposing than on the regular Irish wet days. Posted by Picasa
